Symetri Supports Breast Cancer Research with Participation in NC Furnishings Festival Event
July 31, 2000, High Point, North Carolina - The young,
energetic staff at Symetri, a Triad interactive agency, will participate
in the 3rd annual Tour de Sealy bed race this coming weekend. Held during
the North Carolina Furnishings Festival set for August 5-6 in downtown
High Point, this exciting event raises funds for non-profit organizations.
Symetri, whose confident staff has stated they intend to win in every
competition category, will donate their proceeds to Friends You Can Count
On. They encourage all area supporters of the fight against breast cancer
to come out and cheer for the Symetri team.
The mission statement of Friends You Can Count On conveys the organization's desire to honor friendships and the concern for friends with "focused efforts on awareness of the need for new and improved methods of earlier detection of breast cancer." The group is the nation's only breast cancer charity dedicated exclusively to finding, evaluating, funding, and publicizing new projects for research in earlier breast cancer detection. Approximately 186,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year and another 1 million more women have breast cancer and don't know it yet. Current "early detection" methods cannot detect many breast cancers until they have been present in the body for 5 - 8 years. In the five-year history of Friends You Can Count On, $650,000 has been raised and research projects have been funded at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, the Mayo Clinic Foundation, and the Duke University Cancer Center, among others.
