Symetri Launches New Web Presence
Symetri (yep, that's us) put the good-enough-to-go-live touches on its new website today, after several months of after-hours research, design and development.
We realized we had been so busy doing work for clients that we'd neglected our own site. Our teams got together and devised a project plan for putting up a site that did more to provide the immediate access to information that our most frequent visitors were really after.
Following our own user-experience process, we interviewed and observed potential and current clients to find out what they look for in a web developer or other vendor site. We learned an important lesson: these people have a job to do, which is to find the right vendor to help them with a particular need. So, helping the customer with that job had to be the primary function of our face on the Web.
Part of our research involved watching people click through the sites of our competitors. Anything getting in the way of completing their "job" was met with frustration. In the words of one customer: "Don't hide what I'm looking for."
In our own site, we've tried to eschew cleverness for clarity, without sacrificing a sense of personality.
We also implemented our XML framework, allowing easier modification and content publishing. (In fact, this news item is being added in our nifty admin tool right now!) We've been using this approach for our clients, and we were starting to get jealous. Finally we can enjoy the same experience they've been smiling about.
We plan for our site to continue to grow and add other information resources, knowledge, and value. But for now, we're satisfied to brag about our terrific clients, and give quick answers to the busy people who might drop by just trying to get their jobs done.
