Process: The Symetri Approach

Symetri's process is all about Understanding.
In fact, it's not so much a process as a way of doing business. If we can understand the context of our client and the people who make their business run, we can translate that understanding into developing the right tools for the job.
We connect each segment of a project to a strong rationale for supporting business goals and objectives. And we obsessively include the client in the ongoing evolution of the product. Understanding users provides a center of gravity to the project that saves time and money in the long run.

Research & Analysis
Our entire cross-functional team - engineers, designers, architects, client services - talk with and observe potential users in the context of their daily work. The goal is to discover their real needs, habits, and goals. We don't make users tell us how to design; we merely seek to fully grasp their situation.
Next, we get the whole design team together to share what we've learned and find patterns in the data. Through process-modeling and other techniques, the team develops a shared foundation of knowledge about the client and its customers, employees and partners.

Architecture & Design
Once the team has a foundation, it turns to creating solutions. Architecture is the big-picture plan that determines how essentials will be organized, how workflow will be channeled, and how things like content taxonomies and access privileges will shape a user's experience. Based on the user-personas developed during Research & Analysis, the architectural blueprint becomes a natural outgrowth of the way people work.
The purpose of design is to make something more useful. An application's design is driven by how it will be used, screen-by-screen, link-by-link. Just as the shape of a sports car serves the purpose of aerodynamics, the aesthetic shape of a site is largely the result of function. The user interface has to make sense, run like a Swiss clock, and look fabulous.
Formed around user scenarios and the creative aspects of brand and style, the functional and stylistic elements come together and the product takes on its final shape.

Production & Delivery
Because of Symetri's use of open standards like XML and expertise with business platforms like SAP and Microsoft, production goes much more smoothly than might be expected. There are also fewer surprises to slow things down, because of all the intensive preparation, modeling and prototyping that came before.
Symetri performs extensive testing and Quality-Assurance checks, and works with the client to be sure the final product is up and running smoothly.
