| AdSense | Google's contextual advertising program |
| AdWords | Google's paid search advertising program |
| Aging Delay | Time during which new websites generally do not show up in the search results. Has also been termed as being in the Google "sandbox" which in the past has been 6-9 months. |
| Algorithm | A method search engines use to determine which pages are the most relevant to a searcher's query. Ultimately how the search engines decide who is ranked first, second, third, millionth, etc. |
| Alt Attribute Tag | The alt attribute specifies alternate text that is rendered when the image cannot be displayed. Image alt attributes can be helpful when they utilize keyword phrases that best describe the page the image is pointing to. |
| Anchor Text | The words in the clickable part of a link. Since search engines assume the anchor text adequately describes the page content, it is a good place to put relvant keywords since they will carry more weight. |
| Ask | The search engine formery known as "Ask Jeeves". Ask general point of difference is their claim of an innovative search engine that delivers faster and more relevant searches. |
