Story:
In 1999, Broyhill felt that the time had come to provide its retail dealers with an on-line system for checking order status and retrieving other relevant information. Broyhill heard of Symetri's capabilities through its sister company, Thomasville Furniture, and engaged Symetri to implement a solution to meet this business need.
Symetri began by gathering application requirements and sample screen layouts (on paper) from Broyhill. Unlike other projects involving significant business, user, and application research and analysis efforts, in this instance Symetri focused on implementing a solution to meet a set of requirements that were already largely defined before Symetri was even involved. The underlying goal of the site was to provide secure, fast and organized access to the data by minimizing graphics or confusing interface elements that might hinder page load times or confuse those using the application.
The biggest challenge of the project was implementing an automated process for receiving daily updates from Broyhill's mainframe systems over the internet and importing these updates into a SQL Server database. To accomplish this, Symetri developed several MTS packages and an associated ColdFusion script to import the several data files uploaded daily and provide associated validation and error checking/handling. The import script also generates and email summary report that is sent to both Broyhill and Symetri, allowing any problems to be quickly identified and diagnosed.
